Point Pelee and the S.S. BadgerThe final day will undoubtedly be the longest. Students will celebrate the final day with a breakfast of donuts and fruit at 7 AM and then pack up camp. We will depart Wheatley Provincial Park at 8 AM and take a short drive to Point Pelee National Park, arriving at 8:30 AM. We will spend the morning exploring the very diverse environment that is Point Pelee, a five miles long point sticking out into Lake Erie.
We will start by hiking to its signature 'point' at 9 AM, the southernmost point of mainland Canada. At 10:30 AM we will canoe through the inner marshland of Point Pelee, taking in the park from a very unique viewpoint. Due to a very tight schedule, we will depart Point Pelee National Park at 12:30 PM after eating sandwiches for lunch. We will reach the Detroit Customs by 1:30 PM, hopefully departing by 2:10 PM. Afterwards we will drive clear across Michigan, to Ludington, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Arriving at 7:15 PM, we will board the S.S. Badger, where we can get dinner at its on-board restaurant. The ship departs at 9 PM and arrives in Manitowoc at 1 AM on the next morning. From here we will drive directly back to Wausau, arriving somewhere between 3 and 4 AM in the morning. |
